In 1952, the stone coffin of Kristina Håkonsdatter is opened inside the church of the monastery in Covarrubias in present-day Spain. Who was she really – the beautiful Kristina, who dies abruptly and mysteriously at the age of 28?
Text and evocative medieval music and song by Ensemble Bagall as well as a historical tapas based on Trond Aarstad's culinary research sets the scene for a dramatic monologue.
The production relates the story of Kristina's adventurous journey across the North Sea to Yarmouth, sailing on the Seine, travelling through Provence and crossing the Pyrenees to Spain, where she finally marries King Alfonso X's brother, Felipe of Castille, in 1258.
